Vancouver’s Chris and Melissa Bruntlett present a fresh perspective on cycling. As the central voice of Vancouver’s emerging citizen cycling movement, they share the triumphs and surprisingly few challenges of their car-free, urban lifestyle.
Emphasising utility over speed, and riding in street clothes rather than lycra, Chris and Melissa explain how cycling can be an everyday act of pleasurable and sustainable mobility.
Vancouver is a city that has excelled in providing bicycle infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities. The Bruntletts focus on what safe and accessible space for cycling means in practical terms, to both enjoy the city and take part in public life.
Their presentation includes a selection of short films, produced by Chris, which intimately profile a number of Vancouverites who cycle for transportation, demonstrating that riding a bike is a way to be ‘a part of the city, not apart from the city.’
