ADM’s Mixed Use Design Guide is going open source…

Design for Auckland

If you’re involved in designing, building or constructing mixed use developments for Auckland, then we want to hear from you

Our mission is to provide best practice design guidance for developers, designers, planners, and Aucklanders who have an interest in the development of Auckland’s built environment.

And this year, we’re trying a brand new approach to the way we develop our design guides…

From 18 January  until 25 March  2016 you’ll be able to access a draft version of the ADM’s Mixed Use Design Guide via Wikispaces (an open-source platform).  We invite you to contribute to this draft by proposing additions or amendments to the draft.

We’ll be checking in as comments are added, and where appropriate we will update the draft guide to reflect your contributions.

After  25 March, we’ll collate your comments and create an integrated version of the Mixed Use Design Guide.  This version will then go before a steering group, (made up of external industry practitioners and council representatives), before being published on the Auckland Design Manual.

This approach is a first for the ADM team, and we’re excited about including your feedback in our drafting process. We will take the learnings from this approach into the way we collate and deliver our design guidance in the future.

The Mixed Use Design Guide will also have implications for design guides that are on the ADM, such as the Residential Design Guides (apartments, terraces and detached). By contributing to the Mixed Use Design Guide on Wikispace you will be helping to inform the residential guidance, as this content will be reviewed and redrafted later this year.

If you have a desire to contribute to best practice design guidance for Auckland’s future mixed use developments, here is a perfect opportunity to have real impact.
